The Secretariat is responsible for organizing the work of the Commission and gives continuity to it. It further coordinates the activities of the Support Group; receives information relative to the question of the death penalty; and prepares the necessary reports.
During the first year, the Secretariat is located transitionally at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain in Madrid. In autumn 2011, it will be installed permanently at the Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in Geneva.
