Symposium: “What Makes Criminal Justice Sustainable? A Norwegian –Japanese Dialogue”

Aoyama Gakuin University and the Royal Norwegian Embassy are holding a joint symposium on 1 June 2012.  The symposium will seek to better understand how different criminal justice systems respond to extreme acts of violence and whether the death penalty can be part of a morally sustainable criminal justice system.

Three former Ministers of Justice; Mr. Hideo Hiraoka (2011-2012), Mr. Seiken Sugiura (2005-2006) and Mr. Knut Storberget, former Minister of Justice in Norway will participate in the symposium.

Mr. Bill Richardson, member of the International Commission against the Death Penalty and former Governor of New Mexico will give a keynote speech on international developments to abolish the death penalty.
